Chiropractic care

We pride ourselves on being extremely thorough, and our initial examination reflects this. We take a full patient history, and perform an examination that looks at your body as a whole. After all, it makes sense that if one part of your body isn't moving properly it can cause compensations and discomfort in other joints and muscles.

We utilise movement, strength, orthopaedic and neurological testing, as well as X-ray imaging to locate the source of your issues. From there we explain things fully so that you can better understand what is going on in your body and what it is going to take to help you return to your best.

Our practitioners are trained in various techniques which allow us to treat people of all ages and body-types. We even have treatment options gentle enough for pregnant women, children and the elderly.

Is an Injury preventing you from reaching your fitness goals?

With our chiropractors enjoying active lifestyles, we understand how important it is to feel at your best when exercising and participating in sport. Chiropractic can help your body work in a more co-ordinated way, meaning that you will get more out of your work-outs and with less risk of injury.

For those who are already dealing with niggling injuries or something more major, we can help you return to pain-free movement, and can prescribe rehabilitation exercises to help you get back on the sporting field sooner.

Pregnancy care

Pregnancy is a time of immense change in a woman's body. Weight gain, postural stress and hormonal changes all put a woman's body under tension. It is also a time when women want to be at their very best and want to minimise any potential risks to their unborn baby. With over 80% of pregnant suffering with back pain at some stage during their pregnancy, it is little wonder that many turn to natural health care to help them relieve pain and get their body functioning at its very best.

Chiropractic is safe, non-invasive and doesn't involve the use of drugs or medicines that can potentially be unsafe for the unborn child. Our chiropractors are experienced in pregnancy care and have techniques and equipment suitable for the mum-to-be from the beginning of her pregnancy until the end of the third trimester.

A natural approach to good health

Chiropractic is a natural health modality which means they do not use drugs or surgery within their treatments. Chiropractors have great faith in the body's ability to heal from within. Their treatments aim to enhance this natural healing capacity by eliminating joint and nervous system dysfunction that can interfere with this process.

For example, if a person is suffering with debilitating sciatica, the chiropractic approach is to restore proper motion and alignment to the lower back so that the tissues (including the disc) can begin to heal and irritation to the nerve can be released. With less irritation to the nervous system (which is the control system of the body) your body will once again begin to work as nature intended - in a co-ordinated and functional way.

Chiropractic does not mask pain, or dull your body's natural responses, allowing dysfunction to continue. It is the goal of our chiropractors to find the source of your pain and to normalise movement and function in this area. This in turn takes pressure off the rest of your neuromusculoskeletal system, allowing your body to work at its best.

Care for the whole family

There has never been a time when children's spines have been under more postural stress. Children are indoors more, they exercise less and the introduction of hand held devices is having an immense impact on the spines of growing children. Chiropractic can help to sort these issues out early before they have a permanent impact on your child's health.

Additionally we have many patients in their senior years. They come to us to help maintain their movement, their function and decrease their aches and pains. Our chiropractors' range of gentle techniques allows us to treat people of all ages, shapes and sizes.

We welcome people of all ages and want to make it as easy as possible for families to attend our clinic. As such, we have ample onsite parking, disabled/pram access, an infant change table, toys and activities for children and a fenced play area for kids. Just as importantly, we have friendly, caring staff who will do their very best to make you feel welcome every time you step inside our office.

Community talks

All of our practitioners are very community-minded and passionate about what they do. They are more than happy to do complimentary spinal health talks to clubs and groups of the Coffs Coast region.

History of chiropractic

Daniel David Palmer performed the initial chiropractic adjustment in September 1895. He was a magnetic healer at the time, and had been treating a janitor who had been deaf for 17 years after he felt something "give" in his back. Palmer examined the area and gave a crude "adjustment" to what was felt to be a misplaced vertebra in the upper back. The janitor then observed that his hearing improved.

From that first adjustment, DD Palmer continued to develop this new treatment, naming it "Chiropractic" which is Greek for "done by hand". In 1897 he established the Palmer College of Chiropractic located in Davenport, Iowa, where it remains today. Not surprisingly, many people became interested in Palmer's new science and healing art. Since this time, chiropractic has developed into one of the most popular natural care modalities in the world. It is currently taught in 4 Universities within Australia, where graduates spend at least 5 years studying subjects such as anatomy, physiology, radiology, neurology and specialist chiropractic subjects. Once qualified, chiropractors stay up to date with the latest research and development by doing courses and continuing education every year.
